Good to know
- Quarter-inch (4 squares per inch) is the most common graph paper in US schools; 5 mm is the standard in most other countries.
- For plotting graphs, a darker line every 5 or 10 squares makes it easier to count.
- Engineering paper usually has 5 squares per inch; choose 1/5 inch.
- Light gray or light blue lines photocopy faintly, which is what you want for drawing and pixel art.
Questions
What size are graph paper squares?
The most common sizes are 1/4 inch (4 squares per inch), 1/5 inch, 1/8 inch, 5 mm and 1 cm. School graph paper in the US is usually 1/4 inch.
How many squares are on a sheet of graph paper?
With 1/4-inch squares and half-inch margins, a US Letter sheet holds about 30 × 40 squares. With 5 mm squares and the same margins, A4 holds about 36 × 54.
Will the squares print at the right size?
Yes, if you print at 100% scale. Turn off "Fit to page" or "Shrink to fit" in the print dialog; otherwise the printer shrinks the grid slightly.
Can I use this graph paper for commercial work?
Yes. The paper you make here is yours to print, copy and share, for classes, products or anything else.
